Manhattan Construction Company has announced the retirement of Brian Killion, its vice president and regional manager, after 43 years with the company.
According to the company, he provided leadership on more than $4.1 billion in construction projects across the Mid-Atlantic.
Temporary, in Theory: Killion joined Manhattan in 1983 with a Construction Management degree from Oklahoma State University. He started in Tulsa, then accepted a temporary transfer to Northern Virginia in 1984.
That supposedly short assignment became the foundation of his career.
Growing the Capital Operation: When he arrived, Manhattan’s presence in the Washington region was still developing. He played a central role in growing it into one of the company’s most successful regions.
Along the way, he rose from project engineer to vice president and regional manager.
The Defining Jobs:
Walter Reed Army Institute of Research
George Washington University Hospital
Defense Intelligence Analysis Center
U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases
Working alongside other company leaders, he also helped establish Manhattan as one of the region’s leading federal contractors.
Mentor Mode: The company says his influence will carry on through the many professionals he mentored and the culture he helped shape. President John Reyhan summed it up: “Brian’s career exemplifies what it means to be a builder.”
Not bad for a guy who was only supposed to be in town for a little while.
