WVU Medicine is putting $56 million into a new hospital in St. Clairsville, Ohio.
The WVU Medicine St. Clairsville Community Hospital is going up along Ebbert Road. It'll include an emergency room, a lab, and both inpatient and outpatient services under one roof.
Crossing State Lines, Literally: WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital President and CEO Doug Harrison said the goal was breaking down the geographic barrier the Ohio River and the state line create. This project is that barrier coming down, with WVU Medicine bringing its services into Belmont County in a big way.
The site wasn't picked on a whim. WVU Medicine had its eye on the location for roughly three years.
Belmont County Commissioner J.P. Dutton called it a logistics no brainer, pointing to the traffic running past the site on I-70 and I-470.
Filling In the Blank: The project comes a few years after East Ohio Regional Hospital shut down. Dutton framed the build as part of a bigger push, pairing local government with private investment to strengthen the county economically, with this one landing on the healthcare side of that ledger.

East Ohio Regional closed a few years back. Come 2027, Belmont County gets a hospital campus again.
