The Daily Dig

Construction is underway on the AnMed Education and Innovation Center, a 30,000 square foot building beside AnMed Medical Center in Anderson, South Carolina. Once complete, it will give Tri-County Technical College room to expand their Associate Degree in Nursing program.

Help Wanted, Times 2,000

As of December 2025, South Carolina had about 12,000 fewer nurses than it needed, according to the federal Health Resources and Services Administration.

The state is projected to narrow that gap to 7,250 by 2038. Even then, it would still have one of the largest shortages in the country.

According to AnMed, healthcare providers have advertised more than 2,000 nursing openings across South Carolina in recent months.

Tri-County Tech currently accepts 60 nursing students a semester and keeps a waiting list. Officials say the partnership will let the college add 100 nursing students over the next five years.

“No one organization can solve this challenge alone,” Tri-County Tech President Galen DeHay said in a statement. “It takes strong partnerships between healthcare providers and educational institutions who are willing to invest in the future of our region’s workforce.”

Scrubbing In

Spread across 2 stories, the building will include classrooms, a computer lab, administrative offices, and collaborative workspaces.

The training core is a pair of simulation patient rooms with medical headwalls, supported by debriefing and review rooms.

Students will practice medical-surgical care, critical care, labor and delivery, emergency care, and behavioral health procedures there. Training will be guided by 2 AnMed nurses.

Clinical rotations will take place at the hospital. Students will also be eligible for paid part-time work.

AnMed hasn’t disclosed their investment in the center. They also haven’t given a timeline for opening.

The center isn’t their only active project. AnMed opened their Piedmont campus and a freestanding emergency department in 2025.

A new campus serving Clemson and Central is also under construction.

TheJobWalk Thoughts

With crews already on site, much of this project’s trade work may already be awarded. The bigger signal is the owner. AnMed opened a campus and a freestanding ED in 2025, and they have another campus under construction now. Repeat regional owners are worth building a relationship with before the next bid goes out.

The headwalls are the detail to watch. They’re specialty items that have to be coordinated with framing, electrical, and low voltage, all inside what is otherwise a classroom build. Teams that can show clean work in both clinical and education spaces stand out when owners pair the two.
