Huntsville Hospital broke ground Monday, September 28, on a new outpatient facility in Moulton, Alabama. HH Health is investing $14 million in construction and equipment, and the work is expected to wrap up by the end of 2027.

The Lawrence Medical Center Outpatient Facility will total 10,000 square feet on a 20-acre site at 15445 Alabama Highway 24. Its floor area equals about 1% of the property, and the site provides room for future expansion.

Life After Inpatient: Lawrence Medical Center transitioned away from inpatient care in 2025. Since then, outpatient services, including imaging, lab testing, urgent care, and therapy, have continued as a department of Decatur Morgan Hospital.

LMC is operated by Decatur Morgan and is an affiliate of the Huntsville Hospital Health System.

Plans for the new building include:

  • Urgent care with extended hours

  • Advanced diagnostic imaging

  • Laboratory services

  • Respiratory therapy

  • CT, MRI, and 3D mammography technology

Dollars That Don't Leave Town: The project is expected to support up to 63 local jobs. Under an agreement between the Health Care Authority and HH Health, 100% of healthcare tax revenue and locally generated healthcare revenue will stay in Lawrence County.

That money will be reinvested in local healthcare services and facilities.

Closer to Home: Decatur Morgan Hospital President Kelli Powers stressed the importance of care available "close to where they live and work." She said the facility will offer expanded hours, advanced technology, and more services in one location.

She added that it strengthens "our ability to recruit more physicians and providers to better care for our neighbors."

That gives crews about 15 months to turn Monday's groundbreaking into a building.
