Colorado State University is building the Don and Susie Law Engineering Future Technologies Building, an engineering facility covering 125,000 square feet. Adolfson & Peterson Construction and DLR Group are delivering it design-build, with the opening slated for fall 2028.
Clearing the Deck
The project required tearing down the Glover Engineering Building, and crews began that demolition in early May 2026. Foundation work started in summer 2026, taking the site from demolition to new construction within a few months.
More Than Double the Room
The new building replaces an existing structure of 52,000 square feet, making it more than twice the size.
It sits at the heart of campus and will serve students in the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering.
The design aims to strengthen interdisciplinary interaction across engineering, computer science and emerging technologies majors.
The program leans heavily into hands-on space. Plans include a fabrication machine shop, rapid prototyping labs, computer classrooms and an AI makerspace.
The standout is "The Sandbox," a zone housing augmented and virtual reality suites alongside a robotics arena. It's where a building with "future technologies" in its name backs up the claim.
Team Build
DLR Group is providing architecture and electrical engineering for the project. Their scope also covers interiors, lighting design, planning, programming and high-performance design services.
"By leveraging the power of design-build project delivery, AP and DLR Group have broken down traditional silos to foster collaboration, innovation, problem solving, and shared success," said Katie Hegarty, senior project manager at Adolfson & Peterson Construction.

The release credits DLR Group with architecture and electrical engineering but doesn't identify who's handling mechanical, plumbing or structural design. That gap may be an omission, but ask before assuming any scope is spoken for.
Sites at the heart of a campus typically come with tight laydown and scheduled deliveries. Suppliers should ask about logistics early, since nobody wants to back a flatbed through a class change.
On design-build jobs, core trades are often bought out by the time foundations start. AV and technology scopes usually buy later, and a robotics arena with VR suites won't be short on either.
