Suffolk and CO Architects just landed the job to build UCSF's new Mission Bay Education Center and Dental Clinics. They'll use a progressive design-build model, meaning the team works alongside the university from day one instead of showing up after the drawings are finished.
That early involvement lets Suffolk and CO Architects help shape scope, budget, and schedule while those decisions are still being made. Suffolk Design, the company's in-house design management team, is handling technical reviews and sustainability planning from the start.
The Build: The facility will bring dental education, research, and patient care into one space, built around the kind of interdisciplinary healthcare model more academic medical centers are adopting.
Preston Hoopes, Suffolk's General Manager of Northern California, called UCSF a "world-class institution for dental education, research and patient care." CO Architects' James Simeo said the project will help "advance the future of healthcare" through adaptable, collaboration-focused design.
