Autonomous Solutions, Inc. (ASI) has formed a joint venture with SoftBank Group to develop and commercialize autonomous construction equipment for large infrastructure projects, according to a Sept. 24 press release.

ASI is the Utah company behind Mobius®, its autonomous fleet orchestration system.

SoftBank's money is going to two separate places:

  • The joint venture, which SoftBank capitalized "for meaningful scale" across a number of construction use cases. The amount wasn't disclosed.

  • ASI itself, through a separate $225M investment to grow its commercial operations across the broader construction market.

Brand Loyalty Optional:

The release leans hard on one term: OEM-agnostic. ASI says most autonomous solutions are designed around a single vehicle, a closed ecosystem, or a future roadmap. It says it was built for mixed vehicle environments and existing infrastructure instead.

CEO Mel Torrie says customers can deploy mixed fleets of haul trucks, dozers, loaders, compactors, and more, all operating autonomously together on tasks from earthmoving to vertical construction.

In other words, your dozer doesn't need to share a logo with your haul truck to work alongside it.

Not Their First Dirt Pile:

ASI, which calls itself the worldwide leader of industrial vehicle automation, brings 25+ years of technology to the table:

  • Founded in 2000 by engineers who brought Utah State University technology into the commercial sector

  • Runs a 200+ acre proving ground in Northern Utah, plus offices in Salt Lake City, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Longmont, Colorado

  • Says it's trusted by global Fortune 500 companies in sectors such as heavy construction, agriculture, logistics, and landscaping

Save the Date:

According to Torrie, ASI is inviting the industry's leading builders of large infrastructure, from roadways and airports to railways and waste management, to help shape the future of construction.

The invitations are out, and the next thing to watch is which builders RSVP.
