Indiana University Health topped out its new IU Health West Lafayette hospital on October 27, according to IU Health. The final steel beam was lifted into place, completing the building’s steel structure.

IU Health joined elected and community leaders and project partners for the ceremony. The event also recognized the team members, construction partners and community stakeholders whose work brought the project to this point.

Groundbreaking to Top Beam

Star Meyer leads the Greater Lafayette Community Growth Project. She is also chief nursing officer, interim chief operating officer and hospital administrator for IU Health Arnett.

She said the milestone reflects “extraordinary progress in construction since we broke ground in June.”

Names in the Frame: IU Health team members signed a commemorative steel plate that was incorporated into the structure. The signatures represent the people who provide care and service to patients across Greater Lafayette every day, including:

  • Physicians and nurses

  • Advanced practice providers

  • Support staff and other team members

The building isn’t open yet, but the staff’s names are already part of the frame.

A $214 Million Bundle

The hospital is part of IU Health’s Greater Lafayette Community Growth Project, a $214 million commitment that also includes:

  • A new cancer center on the Arnett Hospital campus

  • More specialty services at IU Health’s existing medical offices in West Lafayette

So the new hospital is one piece of a bigger investment, not the whole thing. IU Health says it’s designed to support a rapidly growing region and expand access to care.

The frame is done. Everything that turns it into a hospital comes next.

Just a quick one..
