Bobyard has launched Plumbing Takeoff, a new product built for commercial plumbing contractors and estimators who spend hours working through P-Series drawings by hand. The tool automates the repetitive parts of that process. It traces pipe runs, counts risers from floor plans, riser diagrams, and isometric drawings, and counts fixtures and components across floors, systems, and materials. It's the latest addition to Bobyard's trade-specific AI platform, following earlier launches in electrical and finishing trades such as flooring, drywall, paint, insulation, doors, and windows.

The product targets new construction work across multifamily, commercial, healthcare, education, hospitality, and mixed-use projects. Core capabilities include detecting pipe runs and calculating segment lengths, organizing pipe quantities by size, and identifying common fittings such as elbows, tees, and wyes. Separately, it tallies valves, traps, caps, and fixtures automatically, and searches drawing tags like WC-1 or FD-1 to convert them into counts. Takeoffs can be organized by system, size, material, floor, and scope, including domestic cold and hot water, sanitary, vent, storm drain, gas, and waste.

Bobyard ties the launch to two industry pressures: a persistent labor shortage across construction, and the size of the plumbing sector itself. The company cites IBISWorld figures projecting the U.S. plumbing industry to reach $191.4 billion in 2026 across roughly 129,000 businesses. For plumbing company owners, Bobyard frames estimating capacity as a bottleneck to growth, since teams can only bid on as much work as their estimators can process.

Michael Ding, Bobyard's founder and CEO, said the goal was to help estimators move faster through the manual, technical parts of plumbing takeoffs while staying in control of scope, quantities, and the final estimate. Across its broader platform, Bobyard reports an average 65% reduction in takeoff time and says contractors have been able to submit 3 to 5 times more bids per estimator. Mechanical and other trade-specific workflows are still in development, making plumbing one step in a wider trade-by-trade rollout.
