Eastern Michigan University will break ground on the renovation and expansion of Pierce Hall, the new home for its College of Business, at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The first phase is expected to be finished by fall 2027, roughly a year after the ceremony.
Five of the six items on the project list cover student and faculty spaces. For the trades, the one worth reading is the last.
According to the university, the project includes major upgrades to:
The chilled water system and cooling tower
Air handlers and associated electrical components
The building generator
That’s a real mechanical and electrical scope inside a business school project. These are the systems that keep the building cooled, ventilated and powered.
EMU says the building will include:
A Student Success Suite for advising, career services and internship support
Specialized labs, including the Stephen J. Klotz Financial Learning Center
Faculty and leadership spaces on the third and fourth floors
One Phase at a Time: The release says Pierce Hall will soon be expanded, but it only gives a completion target for the first phase. That phase will consolidate student success and academic resources, according to the university.
There’s no date for the expansion, no budget and no contractor named. Those are the three details worth watching for next.
