The Daily Dig:
In late November, CleanArc Data Centers officially broke ground on a 900-megawatt data center campus in Ruther Glen, Virginia, launching what the company calls its flagship Virginia Campus, VA1. The milestone was announced by Hensel Phelps, which is participating in the early construction phase. The campus is designed to support large scale cloud and enterprise demand, with an emphasis on high density capacity, scalability, and energy efficient infrastructure.
The VA1 development represents one of the larger data center campuses announced in Virginia outside the traditional Northern Virginia core. According to CleanArc, the site is intended to be built in phases, allowing capacity to scale alongside regional power availability and customer demand. State officials have positioned the project as a significant investment in Caroline County, reinforcing Virginia’s continued push to expand its data center footprint beyond Loudoun and Prince William counties.
Project Snapshot:
Owner/Developer: CleanArc Data Centers
Construction Partner: Hensel Phelps
Sector: Data Centers / Mission Critical
Campus Capacity: 900 MW
Estimated Value: $3 Billion (For the full 900MW)
Status: Groundbreaking / Early site work
Campus Name: VA1 Virginia Campus
Location: Ruther Glen, Caroline County, Virginia
Timeline: First 300MW in Q1 2027, second 300MW around 2030, final 300MW expected 2033-2035
TheJobWalk Thoughts:
Nine hundred megawatts tells you everything you need to know. This isn’t a single building play, it’s a long-term power, land, and phasing strategy. Virginia keeps widening its data center map, and contractors with real mission critical experience are following the substations, not the county lines. Expect patience, deep pockets, and plenty of steel in this one.
