The Daily Dig

Comal Independent School District broke ground March 17 on a $58.4 million elementary school inside the Meyer Ranch development in New Braunfels, Texas. The project is funded through the district's 2023 bond program.

The school, currently designated Elementary 22, is one of two planned campuses intended to relieve crowding at Johnson Ranch Elementary and Bill Brown Elementary. District leadership set a target opening of fall 2027.

New Braunfels and Comal County continue to rank among the fastest-growing areas in the country, and the enrollment numbers reflect it. This year, the district is on pace to exceed 30,240 students, a new record, with much of that growth concentrated along the Highway 281 corridor where Meyer Ranch is located.

The long-range picture is sharper still. The district's most recent demographic projections put enrollment above 39,900 students within a decade. Board Vice President Russ Garner said the trajectory makes clear how much this school is needed.

Chief Operations Officer Mark Stahl framed the project as more than square footage. The building, he said, represents the district's commitment to creating student-centered spaces built for the future.

TheJobWalk Thoughts

A fall 2027 delivery on a $58.4 million K-12 project is an aggressive schedule. For MEP and finishing trades, that means procurement conversations need to happen now, not after the GC finalizes its subcontractor list.

Meyer Ranch is an active master-planned community, which means site coordination with residential construction already underway. Subcontractors working the 281 corridor should expect scheduling complexity and plan accordingly.

Comal ISD has a second elementary campus coming behind this one. Firms that perform well here are positioned early for the next bid cycle.
