Precision Resource is breaking ground on two metal additive manufacturing facilities, one in Huntington Beach, California, and one in Shelton, Connecticut. Both will run on metal printing systems from 3D Systems and are expected to be operational in Q1 2027, the companies announced October 28.

That startup window coincides with Precision Resource’s 80th year in business. Founded in 1947 and headquartered in Shelton, the company makes custom engineered metal components for automotive, heavy duty, aerospace, medical, semiconductor, commercial and defense customers.

Two Coasts, One Network:

  • Huntington Beach: This is its second additive location, an expansion that will double the site’s current industrial additive capacity.

  • Shelton: This is its first additive location, with the ability to expand as demand grows.

  • Combined: The two will form a connected network, and the release says the expansion creates one of the most comprehensive metal additive networks in North America.

Same Platform, More Muscle: The new machines are 3D Systems’ DMP Flex 350 Triple printers. They’ll join the DMP 350 systems Precision Resource already runs, so the company is scaling up a platform it already uses in production.

From Print Bed to Finished Part: Precision Resource is also adding more in-house heat treatment and expanding its complex machining capabilities. That gives commercial and defense customers a more integrated path from 3D printed part to finished component.

“This expansion is much more than adding machines,” said Chris Gratton, Director of Additive and Machine Operations at Precision Resource. He said the network will reduce supply chain complexity and provide greater manufacturing and geographic redundancy.

If the schedule holds, both sites will be up and running in time to help mark Precision Resource’s 80th year in business.
