The Daily Dig:
Sutter Health broke ground January 15, 2026 on its Advanced Cancer Center and Care Complex in Modesto, California. The $380 million project will deliver a four story, 165,000 square foot facility at 1800 Coffee Road on Memorial Medical Center's campus, set to open in 2029.
DPR Construction is the general contractor, with HGA as architect under an integrated project delivery model using lean construction methods. Floors one and two will house the Advanced Cancer Care Center- clinic visits, screenings, infusion, radiation therapy, imaging, lab, pharmacy, complementary therapies and access to roughly 150 clinical trials. Floor three gets an ambulatory surgery center with four operating rooms, four procedure rooms and expansion space. It's Sutter's first ASC in Modesto. The top floor holds outpatient clinics with 50 exam rooms and space for more than 25 clinicians.

TheJobWalk Thoughts:
Stacking cancer treatment, radiation and surgery in one vertical build turns preconstruction into a scheduling puzzle. Shielding details drive structural coordination, power loads affect panel sizing before mechanical is locked, and equipment rigging paths need to be mapped while you're still negotiating GMP. IPD helps by bringing trades in earlier, but it also means your estimators are working off incomplete drawings while owners expect hard numbers. For contractors chasing California healthcare work, the bigger tell here is geographic: $380 million flowing to Modesto signals that health systems are done waiting for Bay Area site costs to rationalize.
