DPR Construction has named Scott Sass its Raleigh-Durham business unit leader. The move puts a 27-year company veteran in charge of what DPR calls one of its fastest growing markets.

The Nov. 2 announcement comes as construction employment in the Triangle rises at one of the fastest rates in the country, according to DPR.

Lab Coats Meet Hard Hats

Sass brings extensive experience leading complex projects and business operations. He also has a strong background in life sciences and other highly technical industries.

DPR says that background lines up closely with the region’s growing demand for research, development and manufacturing facilities. Life sciences and healthcare are among the company’s strongest markets there, and DPR says the region continues to see demand for skilled construction talent.

DPR has worked in Raleigh-Durham since 2007. Its local portfolio includes work for:

  • Genentech

  • Eli Lilly

  • United Therapeutics

  • Duke Health and Duke University

Everybody at the Table, Early

Sass said the local team is known for bringing customers, design and trade partners together early to align goals and manage risk. In his view, customers need partners who can help them “navigate increasing complexity while delivering greater certainty and value.”

A Sandbox With a Safety Plan

Jay Stoda, DPR’s Southeast region co-leader, pointed to the company’s research and development and prefabrication assembly facility (PAF) in Raleigh. He said it gives teams and partners space to test ideas and bring coordinated approaches to projects, with more control over safety, quality and schedule.

Stoda added that Sass will build on that foundation to help customers plan with greater confidence.

The Triangle keeps adding construction jobs at a rapid clip. DPR’s new leader there brings 27 years at the company to the job.

Just a quick one..
