Fluor and joint venture partner Balfour Beatty joined TxDOT and local officials on September 24, 2026, to celebrate the opening of the Oak Hill Parkway in southwest Austin, Texas. The project carries a price tag of $677 million.
Crews reconstructed and widened about 7 miles of U.S. 290 and SH 71 through Oak Hill. The corridor went from two to three mainlanes in each direction.
The work falls under TxDOT's Clear Lanes initiative. Oak Hill sits on one of the region's most heavily traveled corridors and serves as the gateway to rapidly growing communities west of Austin. This was never a sleepy stretch of road.
Flyover Country
Construction began in 2021. The biggest pieces include direct-connect flyovers between U.S. 290 and SH 71, along with new U.S. 290 overpasses at William Cannon Drive.
The old Y-interchange is gone. In its place is a single-point urban interchange, which Fluor describes as the more efficient configuration.
The project also added new frontage roads and shared-use paths for bikes and pedestrians along the corridor.

"Working alongside TxDOT and our project partners, we have transformed a critical transportation corridor that will improve the daily travel experience for thousands of Texans for years to come."
Home Stretch
The roadway is now fully open to traffic.
Landscaping, paving and striping are still underway. Final completion is anticipated by the end of 2026.

An open road doesn't mean an empty jobsite. Landscaping, paving and striping continue through the end of 2026 on a corridor that's already fully open to traffic. On most highway jobs, finishing work next to live lanes means closures and tighter work windows, so that tail deserves real planning.
The scope list tells the rest. Flyovers, overpasses and an interchange replacement on one of the region's most heavily traveled corridors are the kind of work that usually has to be staged around traffic. For GCs and subs chasing similar corridor jobs, that staging plan is often where margin gets made or lost.
