The Daily Dig

Audi plans to build their first U.S. production plant in Georgia, backed by an investment of around $4 billion. The plant is designed to produce up to 200,000 vehicles a year.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, and production is planned to start in the early 2030s.

Audi plans to build premium SUVs there for North American customers. They also intend to establish North America as a third major pillar of their production network, alongside Europe and China.

Mega Site, Mega Stakes

The plant is headed to the Middle Georgia Mega Site, and Audi datelined the announcement from Ingolstadt and Perry.

Audi said Georgia offers a site ready for investment, a skilled workforce, an established automotive supplier network and strong logistics.

They added that the Mega Site offers space and flexibility for future expansion.

Blank Slate, Big Plans

Audi says the plant will be designed around efficiency and flexibility. The goal is a facility that can adjust as customer needs and market demand change.

Gerd Walker, the AUDI AG board member for production and logistics, explained the thinking behind building from scratch:

“Building a new plant from the ground up allows us to rethink manufacturing from day one. We can design highly efficient and flexible production processes, integrate advanced technologies and develop a strong local supplier network. Our ambition is to establish a benchmark for premium manufacturing that strengthens Audi’s global production network.”

The plant is expected to bring approximately 4,500 jobs. Audi also expects the investment to create opportunities for suppliers, service providers and training partners in the region.

TheJobWalk Thoughts

Construction is scheduled for 2027, and on a plant this size, the first packages are usually lined up before crews mobilize. Sitework, foundations and structural steel typically lead, so relationships should start now. With room to expand on site, a strong initial build is the best pitch for future work.

Audi wants a strong local supplier network, and suppliers often build near new auto plants. That can spread industrial work beyond the main site. Approximately 4,500 planned plant jobs will also draw on the same Georgia labor pool that construction crews rely on.
