The Tucson Airport Authority has awarded Granite (NYSE: GVA) a Construction Manager at Risk contract worth about $52 million for the CMAR2 project at Tucson International Airport. CMAR2 is the last project in the authority’s Airfield Safety Enhancement (ASE) Program, a multiyear initiative worth more than $400 million.

The program is designed to modernize the airfield layout and meet the latest FAA safety standards. Granite included the award in its third quarter 2026 CAP.

Granite’s scope on CMAR2 includes:

  • Modifying taxiways and connector taxiways to current commercial aviation safety standards

  • Relocating and upgrading FAA navigational aids

  • Supplying more than 80,000 tons of aggregate and about 50,000 tons of asphalt, all meeting FAA specifications

That material will come from Granite’s own Swan Facility, so the company is building the job and supplying material for it at the same time.

Clean Sweep

Granite has either completed or been awarded every project in the ASE Program. That puts the company on the program from its first project to its last.

That history shows up in the quotes. Granite Regional VP Derek Betts pointed to the company’s “long-standing partnership” with the authority and said the work “requires close coordination with ongoing airport operations.”

TAA President and CEO Danette Bewley called the authority’s experience with Granite “superb.” She said there’s still more to do, but she has high expectations that Granite will keep delivering the way it has for the last several years.

Wheels Down in 2029: Preconstruction began in September 2026, and completion is expected in 2029. Until then, the work has to be coordinated around an airport that keeps running.

Just a quick one..
