Highpoint Health, Sumner Station is converting its existing emergency department and outpatient campus in Gallatin into a satellite acute care hospital. The State of Tennessee Health Facilities Commission approved the project on June 24, 2026. The project carries a $59.3 million price tag covering construction, medical equipment, and engineering. Work includes renovating 41,845 square feet of existing space and adding 2,705 square feet of new construction on the Big Station Camp Boulevard campus.
The centerpiece of the expansion is an 8-bed inpatient pediatric unit. It will be the only dedicated pediatric inpatient unit in the service area. The unit is built for moderate-to-low acuity overnight pediatric care, giving families across a six-county region an alternative to driving into Nashville for hospitalization. That pediatric service area spans Sumner, Macon, Robertson, Trousdale, Smith, and Wilson counties.
Beyond pediatrics, the project adds inpatient and procedural capacity the campus doesn't currently have. New infrastructure includes 12 adult inpatient beds, a 4-bed intensive care unit, two operating rooms, and a dedicated endoscopy suite. A diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterization lab is also part of the build, bringing cardiovascular intervention directly to the campus.
The expansion adds full ancillary support to match the new inpatient services, including an on-site pharmacy, a clinical laboratory, and dietary and cafeteria operations. Existing outpatient services on campus will stay fully operational throughout construction. That includes the 24/7 emergency department, the Carpenter Cancer Center, Imaging for Women, and Highpoint Health Partners clinics for Family Wellness, Neurology, and Therapy Services. Independent specialist suites, housing providers in fields such as pediatrics, dermatology, and community medicine, fall under that same continuity.
