The Daily Dig

IES Holdings has closed on their acquisition of DBM Global for approximately $691 million in cash and stock. DBM Global is a vertically integrated platform covering structural steel fabrication, erection, industrial construction, and engineering services. The deal closed on October 5, 2026.

DBM Global now operates as IES's new Structural line of business. They join IES's existing Communications, Residential, Infrastructure Solutions, and Commercial & Industrial segments.

IES describes DBM Global as one of the largest independent structural steel fabrication and erection platforms in the U.S. Executive Chairman Jeff Gendell called the deal IES's largest acquisition to date.

"Today we welcome DBM Global's approximately 4,000 employees to IES," said Matt Simmes, President and Chief Executive Officer of IES.

Heavy Metal Lineup

DBM Global is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, and runs through a family of established brands.

Those brands are Schuff Steel, Banker Steel, GrayWolf, DBM Vircon, and Aitken.

Together, they operate more than 2 million square feet of fabrication and operating facilities across the United States. Their work covers commercial, industrial, data center, stadium, and infrastructure markets.

Data Center of Attention

Simmes said IES is excited to work with DBM Global to offer a broader range of products and services to their combined customers. He singled out data center, industrial, and infrastructure markets.

He added that IES looks forward to investing in DBM Global's people, facilities, and equipment.

DBM Global President and CEO Rustin Roach said his team looks forward "to working alongside IES's other operating segments to bring additional capabilities and capacity to our customers' projects."

TheJobWalk Thoughts

IES's electrical work and DBM's structural steel now sit under one roof. IES hasn't announced bundled bids, only a broader offering for combined customers. Data center GCs should watch whether that turns into joint pursuits.

The practical draw here is DBM's vertical integration. One company handling engineering, fabrication, and erection means fewer handoffs between shop drawings and steel in the air. Fewer handoffs usually mean fewer coordination gaps.

Rival fabricators should note IES's stated intent to invest in DBM's facilities and equipment. IES didn't say what that spending will cover. A parent willing to fund the shop is still worth tracking.
