Munters has finished expanding its data center cooling campus in Daleville, Virginia. The site now produces chillers on U.S. soil instead of shipping them in from Italy.
The 565,000 square foot facility employs close to 600 people. That makes it the largest of Munters' five manufacturing plants for its Data Center Technologies business worldwide.
The campus builds the company's entire cooling lineup:
Air side economizers
The patented SyCool Split
CRAHs (computer room air handling units)
Fan coil arrays
CDUs (coolant distribution units)
Chillers, the newest addition to the mix
That last one is the real shift. Chillers used to ship out of Italy. Now they roll straight off the Daleville line, including the Circlemiser, which uses cylindrical condensing coils to cut energy use and total power draw compared to standard air-cooled units.
The expansion also added the Munters Service Academy, new production test stands, and a chiller lab with an environmental chamber for stress-testing equipment before it ships.
President Stefan Aspman says AI and high-performance computing growth is straining more than server capacity. It's putting pressure on the energy, water, and physical infrastructure behind it. Incoming business area president Frank Pellegrino says manufacturing muscle only goes so far without trained people and service support behind it.
One less transatlantic shipment per chiller won't make headlines on its own. But it's the kind of supply chain shortening that adds up when data centers can't afford to wait.
