The Daily Dig
The Kansas City Royals have selected Legends Global as owner’s representative for their new downtown ballpark. The open-air venue will hold approximately 34,000 seats and anchor a $3 billion, 85-acre mixed-use development at the Crown Center site.
The team announced the selection on October 22, 2026. The broader development is a partnership with Hallmark Cards.
Owner’s Box
Legends will serve as the Royals’ advocate throughout the project. Their team will protect the owner’s interests on budgeting, construction schedules, and quality and risk control.
They’ll also act as the liaison between the Royals and the project’s builders, architects and design partners. The release doesn’t name any of those firms.
“There is no precedent for a sports-anchored project of this size in any city’s downtown, and we’re thrilled to have Legends on our side to maximize what this project can do for Kansas City,” said Brooks Sherman, Royals President – Real Estate and Development.
Chris Nations, Legends Global President – Owner’s Representation, said their team will act as the Royals’ trusted advocate “from design through closeout.”
Money on the Mound
The Kansas City Council has approved a tax increment financing plan and bonds to support the city’s $600 million commitment. The project as a whole is majority privately funded.
Groundbreaking is targeted for 2027, and the project is expected to bring thousands of jobs to downtown Kansas City.
Rep Sheet
Legends brings a deep venue resume to the job. In professional sports, they currently serve as owner’s rep for the Tampa Bay Rays, the Dallas Mavericks, the recently opened Buffalo Bills’ Highmark Stadium, and the multiyear renovation of the Toronto Blue Jays’ Rogers Centre.
Closer to home, they hold the same role for the Starlight Theatre in Kansas City. They also represent the University of Kansas on David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.

TheJobWalk Thoughts
With an owner’s rep in place before groundbreaking, the Royals have a seasoned stadium team on their side of the table for budget, schedule and risk. GCs and design firms should expect close review of pricing and change orders. Clean documentation will matter from the first estimate.
The ballpark is only the anchor of an 85-acre development, so the opportunity runs well beyond the stadium itself. Groundbreaking is targeted for 2027. Subs and suppliers who start building relationships now won’t be watching from the bleachers when packages hit the street.
