Microsoft has filed a Developments of Regional Impact application with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for a new data center campus called ATL50 in Union City, southwest of Atlanta.
The plan calls for two three-story buildings totaling 910,000 square feet on an 88-acre site at 5235 Stonewall Tell Road in Fulton County. The site is set to launch in 2032, so this is early paperwork, not an imminent job site.
Microsoft already has a heavy presence across the state, with projects in:
Fairburn
Douglasville
Palmetto
Rome
East Point
Tyrone
Union City is shaping up to be a two-project stretch for the company. Microsoft is also reportedly developing a second site nearby with EdgeConneX at 4810 Stonewall Tell Road, on the north side of South Fulton Parkway. That project totals 324MW across 2.1 million square feet.
Add it up and Microsoft's two Union City filings alone account for roughly 3 million square feet of data center space on the same road.
Paper Trail, Not Power Lines Yet
A DRI filing is a real step toward development, but it's still the front end of the process. The application doesn't confirm permitting timelines or construction schedules.
Worth watching: how many more filings show up on Stonewall Tell Road before 2032 actually arrives.
