Mortenson Marks Structural Milestone on Oregon Pharma Expansion

Serán Bioscience and Mortenson topped out Serán’s new commercial manufacturing facility in northeast Bend, Oregon, in early January, completing the structural frame and moving the project into interior construction. According to the owner, the building is the central component of a multi-building manufacturing campus and follows the completion of two nearby support buildings used for warehousing and light manufacturing. Operations are targeted for Q2 2027.

The Bend expansion supports Serán’s push into commercial scale pharmaceutical manufacturing while maintaining its existing development and clinical operations in the region. Separately, the company disclosed a $200 million strategic growth investment led by Bain Capital Life Sciences to support long-term expansion, including commercial manufacturing capabilities. Serán has stated the funding represents corporate growth financing and is not a disclosed construction contract value for the Bend facility.

Topping out the facility is a huge milestone but it’s far from the finish line. Interiors, inspections & commissioning comes next, that’s what will really decide if this project was a success.
