Reckitt, the company behind Lysol and Mucinex, announced on September 16, 2026, that they will invest up to $600 million in their U.S. operations. The multiyear, phased program spans two sites, one in New Jersey and one in North Carolina.
In New Jersey, the plan brings Reckitt's commercial and R&D teams together on one campus and adds a new science and innovation center. In North Carolina, it funds significantly expanded plans for an over-the-counter (OTC) manufacturing plant.
Germ Theory
Reckitt has already relocated their North American campus in New Jersey to support commercial and operational teams. As the next phase of development, they will break ground on the new science and innovation center.
The center will focus on disinfection and microbiology, along with surface care, laundry care and personal care. Reckitt is positioning it as the flagship germ protection hub in their global R&D network, with Lysol among the brands it supports.
"This investment fundamentally changes how we innovate," said Angela Naef, Ph.D., Chief R&D Officer at Reckitt.
Scaling the Dose
The North Carolina plant will become Reckitt's largest OTC manufacturing facility in the U.S. The added funding expands production capacity for Mucinex tablets and liquids and raises volumes for Move Free.
The investment also significantly enlarges the facility's physical footprint. Reckitt says the extra space will support future growth, add manufacturing flexibility and make room for new capabilities as demand evolves.
The plant is scheduled to open in the first half of 2027.
The announcement does not name a general contractor, architect or subcontractor for either site.
