Bracco plans to invest $230 million in its first U.S. manufacturing facility for injectable contrast media, according to the Oct. 27 announcement. The plant will be in Sanford, North Carolina, and is expected to create 200 jobs.
Bracco makes contrast agents used in X-ray, CT and MRI imaging. Its established production operations are in Europe, Asia and Canada.
Largest Market, First U.S. Plant: The U.S. is Bracco’s largest market, yet Sanford will be its first U.S. facility for injectable contrast media. Bracco says the sterile plant will help it:
Expand production capacity
Make its supply chain more resilient
Better meet growing demand
Location, Location, Lab Coats: Bracco says it chose Sanford for its skilled workforce, established life sciences ecosystem and supportive environment for advanced manufacturing.
The expected jobs also reach beyond the production floor. Bracco lists roles in:
Manufacturing and engineering
Technical operations and quality
Warehousing and administration
Nearly a Century In: Bracco Group was founded in 1927 and operates in more than 100 countries. It has a workforce of over 4,000 and annual revenues of about €2 billion.
“As a family-owned company, we invest for the long term,” said Fulvio Renoldi Bracco, vice chairman and CEO of Bracco Imaging.
Bracco’s release doesn’t give a construction timeline or name a builder. For anyone hoping to work on the project, those are the two details to watch for next.
