Meissner Corporation held a ribbon cutting for its new X-ray irradiation services facility in Athens, Georgia. It also broke ground on Phase 2 of its Athens manufacturing campus, per an Oct. 23 company release.

Meissner employees and Georgia state officials cut the ribbon on the X-ray facility. The company makes filtration and single-use systems used to produce pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical medicines.

Beam Me Up: The X-ray facility adds irradiation capacity for Meissner’s own products and for other clients who need the service. In other words, Meissner can sell this capacity to outside clients, too.

According to the company, integrating this capability expedites its capacity to ship irradiated, process-ready products to pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturers.

Federal money backs the X-ray project. It was funded in whole or in part through HHS’s Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, under Defense Production Act Title III.

Shovels Out: Phase 2 adds manufacturing space to the Athens campus at 520 Meissner Avenue and expands the company’s capabilities on the East Coast. The campus was announced in 2023 as a $250 million investment.

The release says the new space will complement two other company sites:

  • Headquarters manufacturing campus: Camarillo, California

  • Manufacturing facility: Castlebar, Ireland

CEO Christopher Meissner said customers are asking for more sterilization capacity and more resilient supply chains. In his words, Athens “is how we deliver both impactfully.”

Help Wanted in Athens: Meissner continues to hire for quality, scientific, engineering, and IT roles. It also works with the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Athens Technical College, and other nearby schools on collaborative opportunities.

The release doesn’t give a square footage, cost, or completion date for Phase 2. For now, the shovels are doing all the talking.

Just a quick one..
