Vortex Companies has acquired Municipal & Contractors Sealing Products (MCSP), a trenchless services provider based in Cincinnati, to enhance the geotechnical capabilities of Vortex Services. The deal was announced Sept. 28.
Bob O'Connor founded MCSP in 2000, and the company now serves municipalities and utilities throughout the Midwest and surrounding regions.
The company specializes in:
Geopolymer and cementitious spray lining
Protective coatings
Chemical grout injection
Rehab of pipelines, manholes, culverts, tunnels, and other water and wastewater infrastructure

Vortex CEO Mike Vellano said MCSP's mix of technical capability, field experience, and customer trust "is difficult to replicate." In his telling, the value is MCSP's track record, not just its list of services.
He said the deal also gives Vortex "a stronger foundation in the Midwest" and more ways to solve complex problems for its customers.
Close Neighbors
Vortex already specializes in pipe, manhole, and structure rehab, and it manufactures geopolymer and hybrid mortars, polymeric coatings, and grouts. That overlap with MCSP's specialties suggests the deal deepens work Vortex already does rather than pushing it into new territory.
Strength Goes Both Ways
Chief Strategy Officer Ram Vela said the opportunity "isn't simply to make the organization larger." He said MCSP's operating knowledge can strengthen Vortex, and Vortex's broader platform can help MCSP scale.
MCSP CEO Drew O'Connor said joining Vortex lets the company build on its experience and bring more solutions to its customers' infrastructure challenges.
The release doesn't mention a price or other deal terms.
