Skanska, teamed up with Stacy Witbeck in a joint venture, has signed a contract with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority to build the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project. The full job is worth USD 1.9 billion, and Skanska's cut lands at USD 957 million, about SEK 8.9 billion. That figure gets booked into the company's US order intake for Q3 2026.

The Scope Sheet:

  • 10.8 kilometers (6.7 miles) of at-grade track along Van Nuys Boulevard

  • A 10.5 hectare (26-acre) Rail and Maintenance Facility

  • 11 new stations, complete with shade structures and utility upgrades

Filling a Gap Metro's Had for Years:

The new line ties into Metro's broader LA County rail network, including its existing G-Line bus route, giving dense Valley neighborhoods real rail access instead of just a bus transfer. Those are communities that have been asking for better transit options for a long time, and this is Metro finally answering.

On the Calendar:

Dirt is already moving, with the finish line set for December 2031.

That's five years of orange cones on one of the Valley's busiest streets, so if you drive Van Nuys Boulevard, start scouting alternate routes now. Future you, stuck in light rail construction traffic, will thank present you.
