Skanska has signed a $163 million contract with the New York City Department of Design and Construction to build the East Side Greenway 14th Street Connector along the East River.

The new waterfront link will connect East River Park and Captain Patrick J. Brown Walk. Skanska announced the deal on Oct. 21, and the contract is worth about SEK 1.5 billion. It will be included in the company’s US order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2026.

What’s Going In Along the Water:

  • A new esplanade along the East River

  • A shared pedestrian and bicycle path

  • Improved landscaping, lighting, and seating

  • Other public amenities

Skanska describes the connector as safe, accessible, and continuous. It also calls the project a critical infrastructure improvement that will expand waterfront access and improve quality of life for New Yorkers and visitors.

Drawings First, Shovels Later:

  • Design engagement will begin soon

  • Groundbreaking is anticipated in early 2028

  • Completion is targeted for the end of 2030

That leaves more than a year between the start of design and groundbreaking, then close to three years of construction. If you’re planning to bike it, don’t pump up the tires just yet.

Order Book Bump: The contract hits Skanska’s order bookings this quarter. The path itself is still years away from anyone walking or riding it.

Just a quick one..
