Skanska just signed a $1.2 billion contract to build four data centers in the southeastern United States. That converts to roughly SEK 11.2 billion, for anyone doing the math in Swedish.

This isn't a new client taking a chance. Skanska is building for a company it's already worked with, the kind of repeat business that says the first job didn't go sideways.

The numbers:

  • Four data centers totaling about 75,000 square meters, or 808,000 square feet

  • Scope covers shell construction plus interior fit-out for technical spaces, support areas, and office functions

  • Construction starts , wraps Q3 2028

  • Contract lands in Skanska's US order bookings for Q3 2026

Two years is a tight runway for four data centers, but that's the pace this sector demands right now. Cloud computing and AI workloads don't wait for permitting to catch its breath.

Data centers have become the steady paycheck of commercial construction while other sectors wobble under high rates and cautious lenders. Skanska landing another repeat client suggests the appetite for server farms in the Southeast isn't cooling off anytime soon.
