Governor Josh Stein announced that SteelFab, Inc. will invest more than $19 million to expand its Fayetteville operations, adding 38 jobs in Cumberland County.
SteelFab isn't testing the waters here. It's already one of the largest structural steel fabricators in the country, running 15 facilities and 17 offices nationwide. The company fabricates up to 2,000 tons of material a week for commercial and industrial projects.
Bay Watch: The new facility adds 108,000 square feet of space. That includes three fabrication bays, two prep bays, two shape lines, an office, and a break room.
The pay numbers stand out just as much as the square footage:

A $125,000 performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund helped close the deal, awarded to SteelFab of Virginia, Inc. SteelFab gets nothing upfront. The company has to hit its job and investment targets first, and Cumberland County has to match the award.
Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley pointed to Fayetteville's pool of transitioning military personnel and veterans as part of the appeal. Rob Burlington, SteelFab's Region President, credited the state and county grants with helping the expansion pencil out.
Those new jobs pay roughly 49% more than the county average. For 38 open positions, that's not a small gap to close.
