The Daily Dig

Back in January, Sundt Construction broke ground on a 65,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Apache Junction, Arizona. City officials and local stakeholders were on hand for the ceremony. The building is expected to become the largest industrial facility in the city and generate approximately 100 jobs in its first phase.

Sundt acquired the 36-acre site in July 2025 near the southwest corner of Tomahawk Road and US 60. The facility will support offsite fabrication of structural and mechanical systems for projects across Arizona and nationwide. Plans also include approximately 10,000 square feet of office space for engineering and design teams, along with a regional training center. Construction is expected to wrap in the first quarter of 2027.

TheJobWalk Thoughts:

When a major GC builds its own manufacturing plant, the downstream effects are real. This gives Sundt tighter control over schedule and labor deployment while closing the gap between engineering and field execution. For trade contractors and suppliers, expect earlier coordination requirements and shifts in how procurement gets structured. The 36-acre site also leaves room to grow, which suggests this could become a multi-building campus over time with expanding prefab scope across the region.
