Voltaris Power just bought Electronic Power Design, a 40-year-old Houston power distribution shop, to expand its data center capabilities.
The deal, announced September 2, brings EPD's engineering team and manufacturing capacity under the Voltaris roof. Voltaris, backed by private equity firm Mill Point Capital, builds custom low and medium voltage switchgear and transformers for data center, utility, commercial, and industrial clients.
EPD brings something different to the table: UL 891 listed low voltage switchboards and power distribution units, built at high volume without cutting corners on quality.

Why the timing works: AI workloads are pushing power density higher, and the industry is leaning harder into resilient, flexible power systems to keep up. EPD's decades of DC experience, built for boats and offshore rigs, happens to translate directly to that shift.
EPD CEO John Janik called it a chance to build on four decades of engineering work rather than start from scratch. Voltaris CEO Justin Smith described the fit as highly complementary.
Evercore advised EPD on the financial side, Haynes and Boone handled legal.
What to watch: As data centers push toward higher voltage DC power, EPD's marine-grade experience just became a lot more relevant to landlocked customers.
