Google's $15B Missouri Data Center Investment

Unsplash
Google announced a $15 billion investment in Missouri for infrastructure, centered on a new data center in New Florence, Montgomery County. The project represents the largest economic development initiative in Ameren Missouri's service territory and signals a major expansion of Google's presence in the state.
Construction activity will generate thousands of jobs throughout the build period, with hundreds of permanent operational roles to follow. Google projects that every direct position created will support nearly nine additional local roles across construction trades, HVAC, maintenance, and landscaping.
To prepare workers for these opportunities, Google is partnering with the Construction Laborers and Contractors Joint Training Fund of Eastern Missouri. The collaboration will train more than 2,300 construction laborers, including 1,500 apprentices, over two years.
Google's Skilled Trades and Readiness program in Kansas City has already graduated nearly 130 Missourians, most now employed in construction or trade roles.
The project also supports a major new workforce development facility in Kansas City, reinforcing Google's long-term commitment to building both infrastructure and skilled labor pipelines across Missouri.

BUILD OF THE WEEK
Toyota's $2B San Antonio Campus Expansion

Unsplash
Toyota has applied to expand its San Antonio manufacturing campus with a new $2 billion facility known as āProject Orcaā. The application was submitted to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts and covers plans to add a complete vehicle assembly line to the existing Texas operation.
Construction must begin by the end of 2026 to meet production milestones, with the facility scheduled to open in 2028 and production starting in 2030. Initial construction costs are listed at $682.5 million.
The completed facility would support 2,000 jobs, averaging more than $88,000 per year, launching initially with 320 employees. Toyota has applied for approximately $37 million in state and local grants through Texas's Jobs, Energy, Technology and Innovation Act.
Project Orca is separate from Project Iceberg, Toyota's $531 million expansion at the same campus dedicated to rear-axle assembly and drivetrain components, which began construction two years ago.
Site selection remains competitive, with factors including transportation infrastructure, skilled labor access, workforce development, and the local tax environment all under consideration.

Róng Museum of Art, China

Concept Image
The Róng Museum of Art is currently under construction in Shenzhen's Nanshan District, China, commissioned by Ma Huateng, founder of Tencent, through his private initiative Tenova Future.
Designed by Büro Ole Scheeren, construction began in 2023 with completion targeted for 2026 and a public opening scheduled for 2027.
The museum covers a gross floor area of 14,500 square meters, with 4,500 square meters dedicated to museum space and 2,300 square meters of gallery space. Collections will span art, architecture, design, film, performance, and digital media.
The design suspends the building's main body above ground, freeing the base as a covered, naturally ventilated public plaza intended to encourage movement and cultural exchange between the museum and the surrounding city.
The museum forms one city block within the wider Houhai Hybrid Campus, also designed by Büro Ole Scheeren, integrating residences, offices, retail, and a hotel.
The museum's name references the Chinese character Róng, associated with symbiosis, integration, and coexistence.

ConTech Funding Roundup

Unsplash
Six construction technology startups raised capital globally in the week ending May 11, 2026, with approximately $87 million in disclosed funding deployed across AI design, BIM data quality, structural materials, and residential renovation.
The largest raise came from Tokyo-based ONESTRUCTION, which pulled in roughly $58 million for its BIM data quality and AI platform.
Among US-based companies, California's Illoca closed a $13 million seed round for an AI-native design platform built around a tracing paper interface, allowing architects to sketch over existing drawings and generate documentation through plain language prompts.
Texas-based Rosarium Health raised $6 million for a home modification platform, connecting users to 3,000 credentialed contractors across 34 states, focused on accessible renovations for aging-in-place residents.
Arizona's Supersede secured $5 million in debt funding to scale its structural materials business, including a marine plywood replacement and a waterproof board for roofs, walls, and floors.
Washington's Wyre AI emerged from stealth, with a preconstruction risk platform offering Wyre Scopes for scope-of-work identification and Wyre Check for flagging conflicts between drawings and specifications.

All the gear and no idea!
