Chevron Signs 20-Year Power Deal With Microsoft for 2.67 GW West Texas Data Center

Chevron has signed a major power agreement with Microsoft to fuel a new data center in West Texas. Announced June 22, 2026, the deal involves Chevron subsidiary Energy Forge One and a 20-year power purchase agreement for a project called Kilby.

Kilby is expected to deliver roughly 2.67 gigawatts of capacity, built in phases for gradual expansion. Most power will come from large GE Vernova turbines, with Solar Turbines, a Caterpillar subsidiary, adding further capacity.

Executives tied the deal to surging AI and cloud demand. Chevron cited its ability to deliver power quickly using Permian natural gas, while Microsoft cited the need for dedicated, large-scale energy.

A final investment decision is expected by the end of 2026, with first power delivery targeted for 2028.

Chevron projects the plant will generate over $10 billion in tax revenue and support nearly 2,000 jobs, while relying on brackish groundwater and emissions-control technology to limit environmental impact.

BUILD OF THE WEEK

El Camino Health Plans $1 Billion Hospital Rebuild in Los Gatos CA

Source: El Camino Health / HOK Architects

El Camino Health has proposed a $1 billion-plus rebuild of its Los Gatos, California hospital, submitting an application to the Town of Los Gatos on June 15, 2026. The new campus would be built next to the existing facility.

The proposed 340,000 square foot campus would include 122 single-occupancy patient rooms, 12 operating rooms, a larger, modernized emergency department, and advanced maternity, cardiac and oncology services. Completion and opening are projected for 2032.

The hospital would be Los Gatos' first all-electric facility, designed to meet current California seismic mandates, target LEED Gold certification, and include a healing garden and water saving landscaping.

CEO Dan Woods said the project addresses expanding healthcare needs in Los Gatos, Campbell, and surrounding communities. The existing hospital, which opened in 1962, does not meet state-mandated seismic standards.

The current hospital will continue operating without interruption during construction.

Wynn Al Marjan Island, UAE

Wynn Al Marjan Island is a $5.1 billion casino resort under construction on a 60-hectare island in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, developed by Wynn Resorts with Marjan and RAK Hospitality Holding.

The project secured the UAE's first gaming license in 2024, making it the first integrated resort in the country and the wider Middle East and North Africa region. Wynn secured a $2.4 billion construction loan in February 2025, the largest hospitality financing transaction in UAE history.

The 70-story tower topped out on December 15, 2025, reaching 283 meters just 27 months after foundation work began. A spire will bring its final height to 352 meters, the tallest structure in Ras Al Khaimah.

The resort will include 1,530 rooms and suites, 22 restaurants, a 420-meter beach, and 12 pools.

In March 2026, Wynn confirmed construction had briefly paused, then resumed, amid regional security concerns. A "modest delay" to the Spring 2027 opening followed.

AI in Construction: Market Set to Hit $9.48B by 2030

A new report, "AI in Construction Market Report 2026" from Research and Markets, projects strong growth for the AI-in-construction sector, published June 30, 2026.

The market is expected to grow from $2.28 billion in 2025 to $3.02 billion in 2026, a 32.8% compound annual growth rate. By 2030, it is projected to reach $9.48 billion, growing at 33.1% annually.

Growth drivers include large-scale infrastructure projects, construction management software adoption, labor safety concerns, and early adoption of building information modeling. Predicted trends include predictive scheduling, AI-based safety monitoring, and automated risk assessment.

North America led the market as of 2025, while Asia-Pacific is expected to grow fastest. Tariffs have raised costs for imported components but also encouraged localized tech sourcing and cloud-based AI platforms.

Key companies named include Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, Nvidia, Autodesk, Trimble, Procore, and Bentley Systems, among others across the AI construction technology landscape.
