Martin Marietta Set to Combine With Lhoist North America in $13.5 Billion Deal

Martin Marietta Materials has agreed to combine with Lhoist North America in a $13.5 billion transaction, creating the nation's leading lime and limestone producer.

The deal, announced June 29, 2026, is expected to close in the second half of 2026, pending regulatory approval.

Lhoist North America operates 20 quarries and production facilities plus 45 distribution terminals, generating $1.8 billion in gross sales and $786 million in Adjusted EBITDA for the twelve months ended December 31, 2025.

Its reserves exceed 2 billion tons of limestone, offering 200+ years of useful life across Sun Belt growth corridors.

Consideration includes $7.0 billion in cash and $6.5 billion in Martin Marietta stock. The Berghmans family, Lhoist's owners, will hold roughly 15% of Martin Marietta and gain one board seat plus an observer role.

Martin Marietta expects about $85 million in annual cost synergies and earnings accretion in the first full year post-close.

CEO Ward Nye called it a milestone advancing the company's strategy.

BUILD OF THE WEEK

Toyota Announces $3.6B San Antonio Investment

Toyota Motor North America will invest $3.6 billion to expand its San Antonio manufacturing campus, adding a second vehicle assembly line for the Tacoma truck. The project will create 2,000 new jobs and add 2.5 million square feet, doubling the plant's size by 2030.

Tacoma production will shift from Toyota's Baja California plant to Texas over about four years. Once complete, Tundra, Sequoia, and Tacoma will all be built in San Antonio, alongside a new rear axle facility starting production this fall.

This brings Toyota's total San Antonio investment to $8.3 billion since 2003. The local workforce will grow to about 6,000 employees, supported by 23 on-site suppliers.

Officials including Governor Greg Abbott, Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, and San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones praised the move as proof of Texas's business-friendly climate.

Toyota also urged swift resolution of USMCA talks to boost North American manufacturing competitiveness.

Camp Nou, Barcelona

Camp Nou's construction began March 28, 1954, in Barcelona's Les Corts neighborhood.

Architects Francesc Mitjans and Josep Soteras, with Lorenzo Garcรญa-Barbรณn, designed the bowl-shaped, three-tier structure.

Builder Ingar SA was contracted in 1955, and the stadium opened September 24, 1957, with a capacity of 93,053.

Ahead of the 1982 World Cup, a third tier was added, raising combined seated-and-standing capacity to 115,000.

New regulations in the late 1990s outlawed standing areas, converting the stadium to all-seated and reducing capacity to 99,354.

FC Barcelona then awarded the Espai Barรงa renovation to Turkish firm Limak, with construction starting June 2023, aiming to expand seating to roughly 105,000.

FC Barcelona returned to a partially reopened stadium on November 22, 2025, at 45,401 seats, rising to 62,657 by early 2026, with completion targeted for 2027.

Beck Technology Launches DESTINI Cloud

Beck Technology has launched DESTINI Cloud, a cloud-native, AI-enabled preconstruction platform unifying estimating, takeoff, bidding, and analytics into a single connected environment.

Announced June 9, 2026, the company calls it the most significant product advancement in its 30-year history.

The platform covers the full preconstruction lifecycle, from; conceptual estimating through GMP, integrating 2D/3D takeoff, AI-assisted takeoff (via Beck's 2025 Workpack.ai acquisition), centralized drawing management, and bid management into one system, replacing fragmented tools and manual data transfers.

At its core is a scalable data model offering a RESTful API and a Microsoft Power BI semantic model, enabling real-time analytics including cost history, variance reporting, and win/loss analysis, with further AI-driven insights planned.

The platform is SOC 2 Type II certified, with enterprise access controls and SSO support, and integrates with tools like Autodesk, Procore, and Togal.

Beck Technology serves 87 of ENR's Top 400 contractors and is migrating its 300+ customers to the new platform.

โ€œPOV: The owner said it wouldnโ€™t impact cost or schedule.โ€
