TSMC has committed an additional $100 billion to its U.S. manufacturing footprint, bringing its total American investment to $265 billion, the White House and Commerce Department announced this week.

The new funding will support four more advanced semiconductor and packaging facilities in Arizona. That raises TSMC's total U.S. plant count to 12, once construction is complete.

The commitment builds on a March 2025 pledge that expanded TSMC's original $65 billion investment by $100 billion.

It also follows a U.S.-Taiwan trade deal announced in January 2026, which includes $250 billion in direct investment from Taiwanese semiconductor firms and another $250 billion earmarked for strengthening the broader domestic supply chain.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the expansion will generate tens of thousands of American jobs. TSMC Chairman C.C. Wei credited sustained demand from U.S. customers as the driving factor behind the larger commitment.

Meta is expanding its Richland Parish, Louisiana data center in a deal now valued at more than $50 billion, up sharply from $10 billion in 2024 and $27 billion as of October.

The facility will grow to nearly 10 million square feet and 5 gigawatts of IT capacity, making it the largest data center in Meta's global fleet.

Turner Construction, Mortenson, and DPR Construction remain general contractors, a structure in place since the original 2024 award. Louisiana Economic Development says the expansion will support 7,500 construction jobs at peak.

Meta is covering the full cost of energy, water, and related infrastructure, including an Entergy Louisiana agreement funding seven new natural gas plants, roughly 240 miles of new 500 kV transmission lines, and battery storage across three sites.

The announcement comes as data center construction drives much of the building industry's 2026 growth, even as pushback mounts elsewhere.

American Express and Silverstein Properties broke ground on the new American Express Tower at 2 World Trade Center, 200 Greenwich Street, on July 9. Turner Construction is leading the base building work as general contractor. The nearly 2 million square foot, 55-story tower will rise about 1,250 feet, designed by Foster + Partners. The project will create over 3,200 construction jobs, using union labor, with completion expected in 2031.

Tutor Perini Building Corp. has been selected by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma for a $140 million renovation and expansion of Choctaw Casino & Resort, Pocola. The project includes interior and exterior renovations plus a new seven-story, 130-room hotel tower with a spa, fitness center, and pool complex. TPBC has handled preconstruction since 2025, with construction set to begin in the third quarter of 2026.

MSM North America, the U.S. subsidiary of CSG, broke ground on the Future Artillery Complex at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant on July 15, following a 2025 Army contract worth up to $632 million. The government-owned, contractor-operated facility will produce up to 36,000 loaded 155mm artillery projectiles monthly. Construction is expected to take about 40 months, with commissioning due within 48 months of contract award and operations beginning in 2029.

Evonik is investing $100 million over five years to modernize its Lafayette (Tippecanoe), Indiana facility, adding new 100 m³ reactors and upgrading key systems for better reliability and automation. The site, Evonik's second-largest in the U.S., is one of the world's largest API facilities and houses the industry's biggest high-potency API operation. The upgrade supports growing demand for complex drug substance manufacturing, including cancer, metabolic, and cardiovascular treatments.

Aramco Stadium in Khobar broke ground July 31, 2024, with a joint venture between Belgian contractor BESIX and Saudi firm AlBawani handling design and build. The 47,000-seat venue is designed by Populous, known for major stadium projects worldwide.

The project carries a construction value of roughly SAR 3.7 billion, about $1 billion, and spans approximately 800,000 square meters, including sports and entertainment facilities, retail space, and entertainment zones.

Aramco appointed engineering firm Ayesa to oversee project management consultancy throughout construction, drawing on Ayesa's experience with venues like Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

ALHANI Construction & Trading is leading the fit-out scope under the BESIX–AlBawani joint venture. The project is targeting LEED Platinum certification for sustainability.

Originally slated for 2026 completion, more recent reporting points to a 2027 opening, timed ahead of the AFC Asian Cup that year. The stadium's design draws on the whirlpool shapes found off the Arabian Gulf coast.

Buildots has launched the Buildots Intelligence Lab, described as construction's first AI-powered research hub. The Chicago-based platform's new unit will publish freely available benchmarks and insights drawn from aggregated, anonymized project data worldwide.

The Lab organizes its findings around three pillars: standardized metrics, global benchmarks by sector and trade, and insights that surface hidden patterns or early warning signs in project delivery.

Early research has already produced notable findings. Data center construction shows a 20-50% gap between planned and actual weekly mechanical, electrical, and plumbing output.

The Lab also found that the final 20% of an activity consumes 27% of its total duration, and that top-performing MEP teams work up to three times faster than average crews.

Schedule adherence varies sharply by sector, with healthcare projects averaging 65% and education projects falling below 39%.

Buildots CEO Roy Danon said the construction industry has long lacked "macro-level truth" needed to guide performance decisions.
