
Fervo Energy signed a 396-megawatt power purchase agreement with Google, the largest enhanced geothermal PPA ever signed. The deal funds continued construction of the Cape Station GeoCluster in Utah.
The project is set to come online in 2028. It's designed to feed carbon-free power toward a potential Google data center in the state.
Google also locked in an option to add roughly 600 MW more by June 2030. That would push the total deal to nearly 1 GW.
The Nevada test run:
Fervo and Google go back further than this. Their partnership started with Project Red, Fervo's Nevada pilot that came online in 2023 and still powers Google's data centers there.

Why Utah's rolling out the red carpet:
The state's SB132 gives Fervo and Google a path toward direct-to-load contracting, pending regulatory approval. That means power could flow straight to the customer instead of routing through extra layers of grid bureaucracy.
CEO Tim Latimer called it proof that enhanced geothermal is "ready to power the next generation of computing infrastructure."
Look at the math: Project Red proved the concept, 115 MW proved it could scale, and now Google's signing up for nearly 1 GW. Each deal with Fervo gets bigger, and that pattern is worth watching.
