Zeo Energy Corp. (Nasdaq: ZEO) announced Sept. 22 that it has entered into a cooperation agreement with Ewyze Corp. to develop data centers paired with dedicated microgrids. The companies intend to focus primarily on the U.S., with selected international markets also under consideration.
Waiting on the Wire: According to the release, U.S. interconnection wait times can stretch five to ten years in many regions. Developing the power and the data center together is meant to materially reduce dependence on those utility timelines.
Each microgrid is engineered to combine:
Solar PV generation
Battery energy storage
An additional dispatchable source, which may include a grid connection, natural gas, or geothermal
One wrinkle: the release calls these "off-grid" microgrids, yet a grid connection is one of the listed dispatchable options.
Beating the Clock, Conditionally: The approach is designed to bring data center capacity online within approximately two to three years of project initiation. That depends on market, land, permitting, financing, and technical conditions allowing it.
Split of the Load: Ewyze brings more than 18 years of renewable energy development experience, and its team has developed approximately 1.7 GW across international markets. Zeo brings its public market platform and strategic relationships.
Zeo Thinks Bigger: CEO Timothy Bridgewater called the deal "an important and strategic step" in Zeo's evolution toward "larger-scale renewable energy and power infrastructure opportunities." Zeo already operates Sunergy, a residential solar business, and Heliogen, which is designed to deliver renewable power for applications such as data centers.
From Dirt to Deals: The partners plan to work together on site identification, land acquisition, permitting and regulatory approvals, engineering and construction, and financing structuring. They also plan to commercialize projects with data center operators and hyperscale customers.
Blueprint Stage: The announcement names no projects, sites, or dollar figures, so for now it's a framework. The first site to break ground is the one to watch.
