Zachry Construction is taking on airfield upgrades at two Southeast airports: Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) in South Carolina and Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in North Carolina.
At GSP, the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport District tapped Zachry as prime contractor for the Taxilane 2 Widening Phase 1 and South General Aviation Apron Reconstruction project.
That covers widening the southern portion of Taxilane 2, rebuilding the South GA Apron with new portland cement concrete, rehabbing existing asphalt taxilane pavement, and installing new taxiway edge lighting.
Project manager Nathan Burgei says the real job isn't just pouring concrete. It's sequencing it right. "Airfield construction requires more than delivering physical improvements," he said, adding the work has to get done "safely while supporting ongoing airport operations."
Runway Rebuild, Fall Edition
At RDU, Balfour Beatty brought Zachry on for $5.26 million in preservation work on Runway 5L-23R.
The project was awarded in March and is scheduled for this fall. Scope includes rapid reconstruction panel replacement, partial-depth concrete repairs, taxiway pavement repairs, and lighting work.
