The Daily Dig

Hitachi and Mission Critical Group have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop data center power solutions and cross sell each other's products. The goal is to expand Hitachi's HMAX Data Center portfolio and accelerate data center deployment.

The Bottleneck They're Chasing

Here's the problem they're both circling. Electrical equipment lead times have become a real drag on data center construction as AI driven demand keeps climbing.

The industry's answer has been modular design. Standardize manufacturing and testing in a factory, and less has to happen on site. Hitachi's own analysis puts that modular data center market at roughly 20% annual growth.

MCG brings a track record building power distribution equipment and power modules for data centers across North America. Hitachi brings power grid equipment, power distribution, cooling systems, and AI infrastructure for data centers, all offered under its broader HMAX by Hitachi portfolio, which includes HMAX Data Center.

Three Ways They're Joining Forces

The partnership breaks into three pieces.

First, the companies will pursue end-to-end energy solutions spanning high, medium, and low voltage systems. They'll use their respective global customer bases to cross sell products and jointly develop modular projects.

Second, Hitachi's data collection and AI analytics will get integrated into MCG's modular power equipment. Planned work includes equipment monitoring, predictive maintenance, and energy management optimization under the HMAX Data Center umbrella.

Third, Hitachi Group's digital and automation tools, including HMAX Industry, will be deployed to improve manufacturing productivity across MCG's production facilities, which currently include more than 18 manufacturing sites in the United States.

Jeff Drees, CEO of Mission Critical Group, put it plainly: "AI is accelerating the need for data center infrastructure that is faster to deploy, more intelligent and built to perform at scale... we believe we can accelerate time-to-power while delivering greater visibility, efficiency, and reliability throughout the data center lifecycle."

TheJobWalk Thoughts

Watch this one if you're anywhere near data center switchgear or e-house procurement. Pairing 18-plus U.S. plants with Hitachi's digital and AI analytics stack points toward more standardized, factory-tested equipment showing up on jobsites, which is generally good news for anyone trying to plan sequencing around fewer field surprises.

For GCs bidding hyperscale work, this is also a supply chain signal worth watching. When equipment makers and infrastructure players start aligning like this, procurement relationships with the right electrical suppliers tend to become more valuable than they used to be.

Modular power isn't new, but the release notes MCG's equipment can connect to Hitachi's digital services immediately upon deployment. Modularization already cuts on-site time. If day-one connectivity holds up in the field, it's worth asking your commissioning team what that actually buys you on the schedule.
