Amazon and Wiwynn are expanding Wiwynn's manufacturing operations in Socorro, Texas. The companies expect the move to create nearly 1,000 new advanced manufacturing jobs by the end of 2027.
Wiwynn builds and integrates the server systems and racks that support Amazon's data center infrastructure. The expansion is part of Amazon's broader effort to bring more custom hardware production onto U.S. soil.
Racking Up the Headcount
Total employment at the site is expected to top 2,500 workers in 2027. Wiwynn projects growth to 4,000 employees once the facility reaches full capacity, a significant jump for the company's first manufacturing site in the U.S.
The expansion comes with real pay behind it. Amazon says the roles created include positions paying 30% above the local wage base, and Wiwynn is already building training pipelines with the University of Texas at El Paso, New Mexico State University, El Paso Community College, and Western Technical College.

Wiwynn CEO William Lin framed the project as a supply chain move as much as a jobs one. He pointed to the company's $1.6 billion investment in the Texas facility as a way to strengthen supply chain resilience while meeting growing U.S. customer demand.
Amazon VP Gary Szilagyi tied it back to the bigger picture. He noted the company's Texas investments have already created more than 86,000 jobs statewide, and this expansion adds to that count.
Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Rick Switzer also weighed in, calling the project part of a broader $250 billion commitment from Taiwan to invest in U.S. advanced manufacturing.

Amazon hasn't disclosed square footage, a contractor, or a construction timeline for this expansion, so read it as a jobs and investment announcement first. Still, a facility scaling from its current headcount to 4,000 workers rarely stays inside its existing walls without some kind of capital project behind it. GCs and subs in the El Paso market may want to keep an eye on local permitting activity for early signs of what a project at this scale could bring.
There's a broader pattern worth watching here too. When hardware manufacturers move production onto U.S. soil, they tend to pull suppliers and logistics partners into the same region over time, which has historically fed sustained industrial construction demand in those corridors. Whether that plays out around Socorro specifically remains to be seen, but it's a trend worth tracking as more of these onshoring deals land in Texas.
